Wedged between the Auray and Étel rivers, Ploemel has a rich history dating back to the Neolithic period. After being occupied by the Celts, the Venetians and the Romans, it was the Bretons who settled in this millenary land in the 7th century. As you walk through the narrow streets of this picturesque old town, you will have the opportunity to cross the road to the Chapel of Locmaria: built during the 14th century on the site of Locmaria, this chapel known for its engraved funeral slab is the oldest religious building in the municipality.
