Halfway between Bayonne and Biarritz, 6 kilometres from the most beautiful beaches of the Atlantic, Bassussarry is located in the heart of the Basque Country. Novice and experienced golfers will be able to perfect their technique at Golf du Makila, well known for its 18-hole course set in the heart of a thick oak forest. But the main activity in Bassussarry is certainly hiking: whether it is hiking, horse riding or cycling, it is the essential sport for your holidays in Basusartar territory. For a very nice walk, we advise you to take the banks of the Nive and follow the stream on the Halage road, which will take you for almost 8 kilometres to Bayonne: count on 1h45 of walking, or about 30 minutes if you are on a bike. The Nive can also be discovered with a lot of paddling! It is also a favourite playground for white-water sports enthusiasts who can enjoy a variety of activities, from simple kayaking to canoeing, canyoning, hydrospeed, rafting and water hiking. We recommend a walk to Lake Mouriscot, a Natura 2000 nature reserve that is very popular with fishing fans, walkers and running enthusiasts who come to jog on a 3.2 km loop around the lake. Less than twenty kilometres away, the mountains of the Basque Country and the Pyrenees are adored by trekking and mountaineering aficionados: advice to amateurs, if you like, several hiking trails (especially from Saint-Jean-de-Luz) will take you to the mountain of La Rhune, the mythical summit of the Basque Country perched at an altitude of 900 metres. From its highest point, it offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the sea, the Basque peaks, the Silver Coast and the Béarnaise Pyrenees.
How to stay in Bassussarry without taking advantage of its main asset: the Atlantic Ocean. In less than 15 minutes from the city centre, you can enjoy all the comforts of the most beautiful beaches of the Basque Country.
