On the Atlantic coast, on the Spanish border, Hendaye invites you to spend a holiday in a privileged place. Between beach, mountains and Basque traditions, you will be able to multiply activities while enjoying grandiose landscapes.
Facing the ocean, Hendaye beach offers you three kilometres of fine sand to enjoy all the pleasures of the sea. With its gentle slope and Mickey Club, it is ideal for families with young children. But it will also satisfy all the other public thanks to the diversity of the proposed activities: surf, paddle, diving, jet-ski... If you wish to do a little sailing or take courses, go to the nautical center, in the bay of Txingudi, which proposes courses of dinghy, catamaran but also windsurfing and rowing. Nearby, in the marina, you can even board a boat for a walk along the French and Spanish coasts.
After a few hours of relaxation by the ocean, discover Hendaye. Just behind the beach, the seafront offers a pleasant walk that allows you to admire the facades of many neo-Basque villas built in the early twentieth century. Then visit Saint-Vincent church, built in 1598 in the pure Labourdin style with its white exterior walls and wooden galleries. Next door you can see the Gazielu Zahar pediment, dear to the pelotaris, the villa where Pierre Loti lived and the remains of the Vauban fortress. A little outside the city, on the Corniche road, also take the time to discover Abbadia Castle. Designed by Eugène Viollet le Duc, in a style mixing neo-Gothic and orientalist elements, this historical monument impresses by the richness of its decor and its furniture.
During your stay in Hendaye, take advantage of your presence in the heart of the Basque Country to visit some emblematic places. Rendez-vous for example in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, town of Art and History, Biarritz, l'Impériale, and Bayonne, the cultural capital of this beautiful region but also that of ham and chocolate. Discover also Espelette, famous for its pepper, and Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port for its beautiful medieval city. On the way, take a few gourmet breaks to taste the many local flavours : ttoro, piperade, axoa, cheeses, Basque cake...

Great location for coastal and hill walks. The culture changes as you cross the Bidasoa is amazing! Hendaye ticks many many boxes.

In Hendaye, you should not miss a break at the bar "Le TTIPIA". Château Abbadia and gîte sur la Rhune: a must.

Maritime shuttle to Hondarrabia or Fontarrabie at 2 euros per crossing. The beach is huge with supervised swimming areas on each side. At the surfers' centre: easy equipment rental; surf lessons at 80 euros for 3 sessions.
