A true source of inspiration for many artists, Collioure, like a jewel on the Côte Vermeille, is a charming destination for holidays under the sign of the sun and escapades in magnificent natural environments, between sea and mountain.
Facing the Mediterranean at the foot of the Pyrenees, this small typical Catalan village is only 26 kilometres from the Spanish border. The Fort Miradou, erected facing the immensity of the sea, as well as the Royal Castle classified as a Historic Monument since 1922 are among the most visited sites of Collioure. Alone, as a couple, with family or friends, Collioure is overflowing with sporting activities for all levels. The mountain first of all, is the scene of multiple excursions thanks to numerous hiking routes traced through the mountains and valleys. The coastal path also deserves your full attention because of the beauty of the landscapes it offers to those who use it. The view on the bay of Collioure in particular is absolutely sumptuous ! From the Hermitage of Our Lady of Consolation to the Tower of Madeloc via Fort Saint Elme, the landscapes follow each other but are not alike. From the ramparts of the Royal Castle of Collioure to the Mollo Pass, through the vineyards and coastal paths of the Côte Vermeille, on foot, on horseback or by bicycle, there is something for everyone. For the experienced walkers, a hike from the Catalan city linking Collioure to Cadaquès will allow you to cross the Pyrenees along the coast for an excursion of 6 to 7 days : by taking paths overhanging translucent bays, the natural reserves of Banyuls as well as Cerberus and the paradisiac coves, you will be struck by the beauty of the sea and mountain landscapes which take place along the coast.
On the beach side, in addition to the traditional tanning sessions under the Catalan sun, water activities are available for young and old in this elegant seaside resort. So you can kayak, sail, catamaran, canyon, paddle, dive, jet-ski, or take boat cruises in the heart of the Marine Natural Park to meet dolphins, gannets and gulls. If the clear and fishy waters which border the commune make the happiness of the amateurs of fishing, they also seduce the holiday makers amateurs of long bathing sessions. The North Beach as well as those of Ouille, Boutigue and Balette are made up of pebbles, like most beaches on the Côte Vermeille. The beach of Boramar at the foot of the Royal Castle is in an absolutely magnificent environment, in the heart of the village : protected from the winds and not far from shops, it is very popular with holidaymakers. Port d'Avall is particularly popular with families because of its kindergarten, fine sand and shallow waters, while Reguers Creek and Batteries Creek will delight vacationers seeking tranquility in breathtaking scenery.
Finally in terms of gastronomy, the anchovy will be the star of all the good colliourencques tables, the city being an old anchovy fishing port. Accompanied by local wine such as Banyuls, sardines, rousquilles, squid and prawns, oysters, fish parades, paella and typical Catalan dishes such as cargolada and lamb, the richness and variety of Collioure dishes will delight the taste buds of gourmands.
