Protected by the powerful ramparts of the Catalan Pyrenees, the commune of Font-Romeu is a family and friendly winter sports resort. Its ski area covers 4 sectors : Pyrénées 2000, Aveillans, Calme and Airelles.
The Airelles slopes are particularly suitable for families. Accessible by road or cable car, this area offers, in particular, two toboggan runs, carpets and baby drags. Enough to understand the sensations of the gliding in safety.
The plateau of La Calme, on the other hand, is reserved for experienced skiers, with its dozen red slopes and some black slopes. A snowpark has even been built between the Roc de la Calme and its plateau. Perched at more than 2000 m of altitude, this installation integrates in particular a zone of Big Air consisting of three jumps of 8 to 15 m.
Back to the resort, the hot water baths will allow you to rest your exhausted body. Baths of Saint-Thomas, baths of Llo or baths of Dorres : to you to choose ! These hot sulphurous waters are renowned for their remedial virtues.
Fort-Romeu also has some rare pearls of Romanesque art in Cerdanya, starting with the numerous churches and chapels containing altarpieces of baroque art and decorations of unheard-of finesse.
Families generally keep an unforgettable memory of the Angles Animal Park, where the wild animals live in semi-freedom. Camped at the foot of the Pla del Mir slopes, this nature reserve is covered by 37 hectares of forest where bear, deer, wild boar, deer, ibex and other isards live and breed. A hike around Font-Romeu is also an opportunity to become familiar with the must-see local heritage. Take the ancient Egat road leading to the site of the former Hermitage and you will not be disappointed !
