Sainte-Marie (also called Sainte-Marie-la-Mer), a pretty town in the Occitanie region, is a perfect family seaside resort for holidays combining relaxation and discovery, in the heart of a sunny and convivial setting. Lovée in the middle of Roussillon, 20 kilometers from Perpignan, Sainte-Marie is the perfect place to discover the Mediterranean coast during walks with family or friends.
The authentic village of Sainte-Marie is calm: here, no disco or club, not even noisy fiestas. If the commune is nevertheless animated by several local festivities, they are for the inhabitants and families who come to Sainte-Marie for a pleasant stay under the theme of relaxation. Throughout the year, you will be able to attend concerts, a theatre festival (Primavera, from February to May), conferences, balls (Monday and Thursday on Place Agora), musical activities for young and old, as well as sports outings on the beach, mixing fishing, excursions by bike or horse. Several itineraries criss-crossing Sainte-Marie and its surroundings will give you the opportunity to discover all the beauty of the San Marino coast, whether you are a pedestrian or cyclist : on foot, a cultural itinerary of 3 kilometres accessible to all will lead you through the medieval streets of Sainte-Marie-la-Mer, to the discovery of about fifteen amusing and picturesque trompe l'oeil. By bike, several 5, 7, 14 or 20 kilometre long cycle tourism routes will take you from Sainte-Marie beach to the neighbouring villages, through the woods, the washhouse and the port, along the Agouille de l'Auque river, the Mas Nérel, the fields and the coastal paths.
Divided into three large areas, Sainte-Marie beach, more than 3 kilometres long, is very popular with bathers. Opposite the tourist office, the "Plage Centrale", bordered by a pedestrian walkway, a "healthy route" and palm trees, is in a preserved environment, with little concrete, unlike many very touristic seaside resorts on the coast. The little ones will love the inflatable structures in the water, located on the southern part of the beach, when the older ones can relax in peace under the Mediterranean sun. Very popular with holidaymakers when summer comes, we advise you to go early enough to have a place to plant your parasol. From the marina to the "healthy course" of the central beach, being the "Epis Beach" : divided into several "épis" with dikes, this beach is appreciated by sportsmen who come to play beach volleyball. Located near shops, this beach is close to those of Canet-en-Roussillon. From Avenue des Dunes to the large beach of Torreilles, is the "Plage du Camping Municipal" of Sainte-Marie. Superbly preserved, this beach is ideal for long afternoons of idleness under the sun, on the shores of San Marino. Water sports aficionados will go to the beaches of Canet-en-Roussillon and Torreilles, where windsurfing, surfing, paddle, jet-skiing, waker-jumping, kitesurfing and water hiking will occupy their sporting afternoons. You can also rent boats with or without a licence for family sea excursions, a first flight over the Mediterranean coast and the Vermeille coast, accrobranche, zip line or scuba diving.
Finally, in terms of local flavours, you will not be disappointed by the generosity of Mediterranean cuisine. Here, fish is on the menu of many brands : Catalan specialities, fish and seafood can be tasted at the restaurant "Can Mylia" as well as at "Carpe Diem" and "El Pica Pica" facing the sea, when grill lovers will rather go to the restaurant "Al Grill" or "Le Barbecue", to enjoy good meals facing the setting sun.
