Nestled in the Tarentaise Valley in the heart of Savoie, Aime la Plagne is located on a territory inhabited for more than 5000 years. Fusion of the three former communes of Granier, Aime and Montgirod, its geographical position has given it an important role in the course of history. It was also this peaceful commune which was named capital of the Province of the Gray Alps by the Roman emperor Augustus. Then known as Axima, it watched the road to Milan. Today, the town has been converted into a charming ski resort where it is good to live.
Ski enthusiasts have obviously heard of Aime 2000. This quiet resort perched at 2100 meters of altitude belongs to the famous domain of La Plagne. For more than 50 years, this area has more than 200 km of ski runs and snowparks, where winter sports enthusiasts hang out. Opposite the tracks, one can not miss the "Paquebot des Neiges", imposing construction of the architect Michel Bezançon that takes its name from its form so recognizable. The central building of the resort, it is an integral part of it and blends harmoniously into this Savoyard landscape.
Aime La Plagne is also a territory full of history. From the greatness of the Roman era, foundations of a building on which was built in the 11th century the Basilica of Saint Martin. A jewel of Savoyard Romanesque art, this place of culture nowadays has a museographic space where temporary exhibitions are organized. From the Middle Ages, the Tour des Sires de Montmayeur has also been preserved. This vestige testifies to the power of yesteryear of the seigneurial family of Montmayeur, settled on the territory of Aime for centuries. Thanks to him, they controlled the circulation of the Isère river, which crosses the town. In the Renaissance, it gradually lost its defensive function and became a special residence thanks to a redevelopment of the interior. Now, it hosts exhibitions retracing the history of medieval Savoy.
Nature lovers will visit the site of the former municipality of Montgirod, today attached to Aime La Plagne. Located on the forest of Montgerand, it is kilometers of lush vegetation and natural beauty that await the walkers. Around the lake, the leisure center of Montgirod allows you to practice water sports or to fish with serenity. It is also the ideal place for a family picnic with a view of the summits.
