Along the Rhône, in the Savoie department, Motz is one of those little nuggets perfect for summer and winter holidays in the mountains. Between nature and culture, escape and sports, Motz has all the cards in hand to delight young and old alike.

On the border with the Ain and Haute-Savoie, the Savoyard commune of Motz is located about forty kilometres west of Annecy. In Chautagne, between the Grand Colombier and the Gros Foug, it is in the middle of the vineyards of Savoy, just at the confluence of the Rhône and the Fier that the village is located. Spread out between 240 and 1044 meters of altitude, nestled at the foot of the mountain, this rural village benefits from a micro-climate which for centuries now has favoured the cultivation of vines to the delight of wine lovers. Here, to stroll, favour soft mobility, namely your feet, and the bicycle! In order to allow you to criss-cross its territory, the commune has equipped itself with numerous marked paths which will lead you to the discovery of magnificent roads lined with vines and cellars in which lovers of the soil will be able to taste the local productions. In all, 4 loops will accompany you: that of the 3 castles, the loop of the banks of the Rhone, that of the Panorama between Gros Foug and Colombien, or that which will enable you to join Chanaz by the Viarhôna. But there are many other trails that will satisfy hiking lovers, whether you are a Sunday walker or a seasoned hiker: the "Sentier des Vignes" will be perfect to walk (3 kilometers), as well as the "Sentier de Barvy" and its magnificent viewpoints on the Rhone valley, the "Sentier ornithologique", the GR65 (path of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle), the "Sentier des Huguenots"... In short, you will have understood, there is plenty to do in Motz as far as walks are concerned!

The list of things to discover on the built-up area will keep you very busy. A must to discover? The old feudal castle located in Châteaufort (notably open during the Heritage Days), but also the 14th century Maison Forte, and the Notre-Dame de l'Assomption church, a 16th century building known for its decorations and its unique baroque choir. The commune also has two dams, one on the Fier, the other on the Rhône, as well as a bread oven and wash houses, all in working order, which will take you on a poetic journey through time.

If there is one site that holidaymakers appreciate in Motz, it is its Espace sport et nature du Fier. Labelled "Vignobles et Découvertes", this site is a little nature paradise. You can swim, but also cycle, rollerblade, hire electric bikes, play tennis, fish, hike, or even opt for a few thrilling moments thanks to a forest zip line and a water zip line! Finally, if you are looking for snow, head for the Sur-Lyand / Grand-Colombier Nordic domain located very close to the village! Snowshoeing, sledging and cross-country skiing at an altitude of 1500 metres will complete your stay in Savoie!
