Valmeinier belongs to the large ski area of Galibier-Thabor. It is therefore connected to the neighboring station, Valloire, and forms with it a real playground for the lovers of the slide : 150 kilometers of tracks located at more than 2000 meters of altitude. In Valmeinier, many events punctuate the life of the village and the resort. Summer and winter, holidaymakers have many opportunities to have fun with the residents. In February, everyone in his costumes is Carnival time ! From February to March, the residences of Valmeinier 1800 defy every Wednesday : the vacationers come to represent their residences in a frantic race on a special slalom. Your skis !
The unavoidable event in 2017 is without a doubt the French cup of slopestyle, which will take place in Valmeinier on March 25th. This discipline recognized by the International Ski Federation consists of realizing sensational acrobatic figures laced with skis or a snowboard. In 2014, the slopestyle became an official Olympic discipline. In 2017, the biggest French slopestyle athletes will hurry on the slopes of Valmeinier to show what they are capable of.

Nice walks around the residence but you have to be at least athletic because there are often 2 to 3 hours of walking with 200m difference in altitude. Don't be afraid of heights on most of the walks. Go and see the marmots behind the chairlifts!

We attended a conference presenting the history of Valmeinier. The high mountain guide (Francis) who gave us the presentation was absolutely fascinating, both historically and in terms of the fauna and its adaptation to today's environment.
