Near the Italian border and a few kilometres from Modane, Aussois welcomes you to its majestic mountain setting. In summer and winter, between forests and peaks, you can practice many activities and enjoy an exceptional terroir.
A former traditional Savoy village, Aussois is now a pleasant holiday resort that has lost none of its charm of yesteryear. While walking through the streets of the village, you will appreciate the Savoyard houses with their flowered balconies, the main square and its pretty fountain, the Notre-Dame de l'Assomption church with its Piedmont style bell tower and also the breathtaking view of the mountain. On the territory of the municipality, you can also discover the Esseillon barrier, fortifications built at the beginning of the 19th century by the kingdom of Piedmont Sardinia to protect itself from possible French attacks. Among these fortifications, Fort Victor Emmanuel offers a visit in the form of a playful route, specially adapted for children.
In winter, Aussois wears its white coat of snow and turns into a real playground. With its 5 chairlifts, 4 ski lifts and 21 slopes of different levels, the resort offers more than 55 kilometres of marked trails. Between 1500 and 2750 metres above sea level, you can practice downhill skiing, slalom, sledging, new slides in the snowpark but also downhill skiing and snowshoeing in the Nordic Monolithic area. In summer, the resort returns to the greenery of its mountain pastures and invites you to practice many other outdoor sports. On the agenda: hiking and mountain biking in the Maurienne valley and in the Vanoise National Park, via ferrata on the longest course in France, climbing, mountaineering, paragliding...
Take advantage of your stay in Aussois to discover the other wonders of this little corner of Savoy. Visit the pretty town of Modane with its beautiful colourful houses, its granite fountain dating from 1572, its church, its baroque chapel of Santiago and its Riceerie des Alpes. Then take a short getaway to Bonneval sur Arc, one of the most beautiful villages in France. You will be impressed by the architectural harmony of its stone chalets with their lauze roofs. And don't forget to taste the other local wonders such as tartiflette, fondue, charcuterie, cheeses from Abondance, Beaufort....

ESF top, ski touring, Club des Montagnes for children, snowboard snowshoeing everything was top notch despite the crisis (Covid). Ski Set : I recommend in friendliness and availability as well as Ski Prenium (but not Intersport because not commercial at all).

We didn't know this region at all. We found very nice people, regional products, great regional products, great. In the village, we met a gentleman who lives in Aussois and who has written a book entitled "Mémoires de Rhododendrons". We were able to take a free fondue machine from the cheese shop. All the shopkeepers in the village and at the Tuesday market told us about the walks we could take. We are thinking of returning to this beautiful region one of these summers.

Restaurant "L'Etagne": excellent, perfect welcome. Bar "Le Cosi" for good warm snacks. Bar "Le Delta": top welcome, good wines and sausages. Snowtubing (toboggan/buoy): 2€ per descent or 7€ per half-hour. Intersport for equipment rental and small purchases (+ small parapharmacy).

The buoys on the snow will delight young and old alike ! The cheese dairy in the village is excellent. The doctor of the station ultra-competent (my wife sprained her knee the first day): he is equipped to make X-rays and you do not lose 2 hours to wait.
