Perched in the heart of the Var, and more precisely in the heart of the superb Pays de Fayence, Tourrettes is a destination full of charm and romance that will seduce lovers of beautiful stones, history and Provence. Less than one kilometre from Fayence, 10 kilometres from Lake Saint-Cassien and thirty-five minutes from the Mediterranean coast, this village between the sea and the mountains offers a wide range of activities, whether you choose to pack your bags in winter or summer.
With the Mediterranean, the Esterel and the Maures mountains as a backdrop, the seductive perched village of Tourrettes is one of those places where grandiose nature and gentle living go hand in hand, to offer its visitors peaceful moments in a magnificent setting. With its labyrinth of narrow alleys, vaulted passages, small stairs and high points of view, you will love walking around to discover the smallest secrets of this open-air museum. As a city of artists, you will be able to admire the doors, façades, shutters and steps, sometimes decorated, sometimes painted, sometimes decorated with mosaics or wrought iron, which definitely give Tourette the air of a city-museum. Tourrettes takes its name from the "small towers" of a fortress, similar to the Clock Tower (14th century), a true local symbol and an essential building for your visit. Another highlight of your stay: the Château du Puy. Built in 1830 by Jean-Alexandre Fabre (former general of Napoleon I), this castle dominates the entire village of Tourrettes as well as the fields of broom and olive trees that border the town. We advise you to visit the Place de l'Horloge by day and by night so that you can admire an absolutely superb panoramic view of the city and its surroundings from the orientation table, perched at an altitude of 350 metres.
As for leisure activities, Tourrettes, the Pays de Fayence and the Pays Varois are ideal for hiking, cycling and horseback riding: you can easily visit Fayence to visit its medieval fortified village, Seillans, Bargemon, Mons or Caillan, very popular for its castle and its beautiful architecture. A real pearl of the east of Var, Lake Saint Cassien, surrounded by the green slopes of the Esterel, is the ideal place for a stroll, but also for swimming. You will find guinguettes, small beaches, but also pedal boats and windsurfing, all in a particularly beautiful setting.
If you want to complete your visit by discovering Tourrettes from the air, nothing could be easier since the Fayence gliding centre is located below the village. You can opt for a glider flight over the region, and even take flying lessons to learn how to fly. If you prefer land-based activities to air-based activities, then why not head for the Gulf of Terre Blanche? Well known to greens lovers, this prestigious golf course has two 18-hole courses in the heart of nature: enough to perfect your swing in a preserved and magnificent setting.
