In the province of Salerno, in the Campania region of Italy, Amalfi is located on the legendary coastline of the same name, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1997. Bordered by the waters of the Gulf of Salerno, in the Tyrrhenian Sea, Amalfi sits on broad rocky cliffs plunging into the heart of a wide gorge opening onto the waters of the port. Dominated by Mount Cerreto, which towers over the village from a height of 1,315 meters, Amalfi was one of the main ports of Europe from the 9th to the 12th century. Known as one of the most beautiful villages in the province of Salerno, this former fishing village has become a popular destination for tourists seeking authenticity and dolce vita. Take the time to stroll along its ancient streets dotted with houses clinging to the cliffs, where historical monuments and vegetation have a place of choice. What to see? The Cathedral of Saint Andrew the Apostle! Located in Piazza Duomo, with the fountain of St. Andrew in its center, this imposing cathedral with its amazing architecture is a real gem, accessible after climbing majestic steps. It is worth the detour for the intact beauty of its decorations as well as for its Norman style cloister which will be a refreshing interlude during this trip under the Italian sun! Stroll along Via Lorenzo d'Amalfi which is full of ice cream shops, boutiques and other restaurants where you can eat, discover the arcaded houses, the fountain of Via Salita decorated with a whole bunch of statuettes, but also the perpendicular streets which will allow you to easily access the heights of the city. For beautiful views of Amalfi, don't miss the pontoon south of the city, a beautiful overhang on the sea that will offer you wonderful views of the houses clinging to the cliff, the rock of Mount Cerreto and the sea.
