About 30 kilometres north-west of Avignon, and 10 kilometres from the town of Bagnols-sur-Cèze, Gaujac is located in the Gard department, a few steps from the Vaucluse. A fertile land, rich in generous nature and ancient history, the commune is ideal for lovers of Provence and calm.
In the heart of a region rich in majestic historical places and monuments, the small village of Gaujac flourishes. On the left bank of the Rhône, in the Gard Provençal, this charming village has something to satisfy lovers of history and old stones. Here, there are many sites that testify to life in the commune a long time ago. Starting with the thermal baths of Gaujac, on the site of the oppidum of Gaujac, would date from 425 BC; located to the west of the village, the Oppidum Saint-Vincent is a place of stroll particularly appreciated by the visitors, thanks to the landscapes which it offers and the panoramas which it makes it possible to observe on the commune and the Veyre below. Just next door, the summit of La Gardie at 289 metres above sea level will delight hikers: where a watchtower once stood, built at the same time as the Oppidum Saint-Vincent, remains a mound offering splendid views of the neighbouring valleys (la Tave, la Veyre) and Gaujac. In the same area, the Saint-Saturnin chapel is also worth the detour; a former Romanesque chapel made entirely of Provençal stones, it is located at the foot of the Oppidum, in the hollow of a small wood which gives it a certain charm.
In the heart of the village, you will undoubtedly love to admire the typical stone houses of the region, old and so pretty, which are articulated along the sloping streets of Gaujac. The 11th century Saint-Jean chapel, the old Poux well from 1700, two fountains, the old wash-house from 1885, the Rouvière basin, the school from 1902 and the 17th century church are the main part of the small heritage of the village. Also to be seen? The Castle of Gaujac! Located at 20 rue de la Pousterle, this former medieval fortified castle is now a private residence, but hosts exhibitions, conferences, workshops and concerts throughout the year. Its coats of arms, its frescoes, its faux marble paintings, its grand staircase, its library with gypseries, its stained glass windows and its salons make it a historical monument of great value which, to the delight of holidaymakers, can be visited during the summer.
While strolling along the hiking trails on foot, on horseback or by bicycle, you will discover all the unique beauty of the region. Further north, the Monastery of Solan is worth seeing, as is the magnificent and authentic village of Uzès, not forgetting the Pont du Gard 18 kilometres further south, a jewel of the region and a paradise for sports enthusiasts who can enjoy a whole host of water sports and thrilling activities... Enough to fill these family holidays in the Gard!

Many sites to discover, the tourist office is good advice. A nice little restaurant, with a homemade cuisine, at the entrance of Argentiére: "La Yaute Café".
