Nestled in the heart of a magnificent preserved environment, Saint-Gervais-les-Bains is the highest commune in France, perched at 850 metres above sea level. Located in the heart of the Alpine massif, in the department of Haute-Savoie, the town extends to the slopes of Mont Blanc, the highest peak on the European continent with its 4809 metres high.
Ski lovers, you've come to the right place: Saint-Gervais being located on the ski area "Evasion Mont-Blanc", you can taste the pleasures of skiing on its 445 kilometres of slopes ! Freeride spots, snowparks, huge ski or toboggan runs, hiking and cross-country ski trails : you will be able to devote yourself to many activities in the resort of Saint-Gervais, whatever your level. Instructors will also be able to introduce young and old to the joys of skiing, thanks to private or group lessons.
Hiking enthusiasts, put on your snowshoes and get off the beaten track to discover the region and the richness of its fauna and flora by following in the footsteps of chamois, foxes and other ibexes that inhabit the mountains. Between the landscapes of spruce forests and the immaculate white horizon, the panoramas are
breathtaking. In paragliding, aboard a hot-air balloon or the Mont-Blanc Tramway, all means are good to discover the resort and its surroundings. Being one of the last rack and pinion trains in France, the Tramway Mont-Blanc will be your best means of transport : in winter, it will take you to the Prarion-Bellevue ski area, and once summer arrives, you can access the Bionnassay Glacier. It is from this glacier that experienced climbers can attempt the mythical ascent of Mont Blanc.
At the foot of Mont-Blanc, the charming village of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains will reveal its rich cultural and architectural heritage. Walk through its streets with typical houses: you will have the opportunity to observe pretty chalets, numerous chapels and several churches, such as the church of Saint Nicholas, a real jewel of local Baroque art with vaults painted blue. Take the time for a coffee or a mulled wine on the terrace, facing the breathtaking panoramas offered by the mountains.
You will have understood, we come to Saint-Gervais-les-Bains for its mountains, its pleasant living environment, its many sporting activities but also for its terms. First thermal mountain resort, the commune is appreciated by the curists who put their suitcases in the resort for a relaxing break. Finally, after a day exploring the mountains and enjoying the charms of the resort, sit down with family or friends in one of the resort's many restaurants to taste Savoy cheeses, tartiflette, raclette or Savoyard fondue.

The conditions of our stay were not the most favourable but all the activities other than skiing allowed us to spend a pleasant stay (snowshoeing, hang-gliding, hiking, etc...). The good products of the region allowed us to make nice and tasty meals (the "Maison des Alpes").

As there are no ski lifts, it was an opportunity to discover cross-country skiing in Les Contamines, and to do some superb hiking and skiing.

The Ice Sea
