At the heart of the Southern Alps, the four hamlets that make up Vars are a favorite tourist destination for lovers of mountain and winter sports. At an altitude of 1850 meters, in the larch forests, stay in a peaceful Hautes Alpes ski resort famous for its trails and its traditional charm.
Forêt Blanche, the ski resort of Vars, receives beginners and confirmed on 116 slopes enjoying incomparable snow. In the vicinity, magnificent landscapes are unveiled. In particular, the lake of Serre Ponçon and the surrounding peaks, to be contemplated before descending the slopes.
The four villages of Vars each have their own unique attractions. Saint-Marcellin, the oldest, is perched on a rocky hill and overlooks the resort. Archeological excavations around it attest to the anteriority of the hamlet. Indeed, there are found vestiges dating back to the Age of Bronze. The center of the activities of Vars is however in Sainte-Marie. Starting point of the tourist development, it was here that the first ski lifts of the ski area were built. The main street hosts the majority of the shops and leisure activities of Vars, as well as many hotels which have chosen to live in old typical houses of the region. More residential, the hamlet of Sainte-Catherine is nevertheless one of the best ambassadors of the charm of traditional architecture. Finally, the village of Les Claux was built at the same time as the resort in the 60s. It contains several infrastructures dedicated to winter sports.
Vars remains a dynamic resort during the summer, during which various recreation and sports activities animate the village. Mountain guides guide you in search of its fauna and its abundant flora on the hiking trails. On foot or by mountain bike, the valley is full of secrets that the guides will be happy to share with you.
And if all its activities have opened your appetite, restaurants abound at the bottom of the slopes. For a cuisine that is both original and full of local flavors : go to La Cabane, whose name is in perfect harmony with the warm mountain setting of this place whose reputation is no longer to be made.

We have 3 addresses to recommend: "le chalet du torrent", restaurant at the foot (or almost) of the residence. Friendly owners and typical mountain menus. "Pizza Pasta", restaurant in the center of the resort with a beautiful terrace in the sun, a warm welcome and excellent home-made dishes. Fast service, great pizzas and reasonable prices. "VARS SPORT et AVENTURE" The best of the best! Don't look anywhere else, you'll waste your time. In addition it is next to the residence! From renting to buying, the prices are fair and of top quality. A pleasant person who will advise you on everything.

The road up to the Col de Vars is magnificent. Possibility to reach the pass in a few minutes by shuttle bus and go down by the footpaths in the middle of the marmots.
