What makes people come, come back and come back to Cesseras is without a doubt its immeasurable charm. Not far from the Cesse valley from which it takes its name, the town's origins date back to ancient times, as attested by the dolmen of La Cigalière, as well as the old footprints and cave paintings more than 6000 years old that adorn the splendid Aldène Cave. Also known as the Grotte de la Coquille, this cave, classified as a Historic Monument, is a must for your visit. Here, the narrow streets are dotted with pretty stone houses with orange tile roofs. Few dwellings, because few inhabitants, barely 400 live all year round in this authentic village. And this is certainly why we love it so much! A real invitation to stroll, Cesseras is rich, very rich in splendid monuments that you can discover during your walks, hikes or bicycles. To see? The church of Saint-Geniès in southern Gothic style for its architecture and the treasures of religious history it contains, the site of the former Saint-Salvy chapel from the Middle Ages, not forgetting the few remains of the old ramparts that once surrounded the historic old village of Cesseras. Old houses with mullioned windows, old parts of the castle (including two round towers) and shady alleyways will complete your visit of the town. The Saint-Germain-de-la-Serre chapel is also a must for any visit to the village. Situated a little out of the heart of the village, 2 kilometres to the west, it is a true masterpiece of Romanesque art in the Minervois. Large vaulted vessel, it is worth the detour as much for its architecture as for the splendid place in which it is housed, a green setting favourable for family hikes.

Hikers and other nature lovers will have a great time in the area of Cesseras, crossed by several walking and cycling routes perfect for discovering the region. A must to do? The Gorges de la Cesse et du Brian: a vast limestone plateau shaped by water over the centuries, located barely 12 kilometres from Cesseras, this unusual place is a particularly popular hiking site in the area. Fascinating, it is full of caves, faults and natural bridges, singularly photogenic, which will not fail to amaze the whole family. Minerve, a former Cathar stronghold, is worth a visit for its architecture and gourmet addresses (where you can taste Cesseras wines, among other things!), the Canal du Midi and its Pont-Canal de Jouarre, the Lake of Jouarre, perfect for swimming and water sports, not to mention the beaches of Gruissan or Narbonne, only 50 minutes away by car...
