It is on its elegant banks that some of the most beautiful pages of French history have been written: the Loire, the royal river, has fascinated for centuries curious and in love with French-style building. Some fifteen kilometres from its captivating banks, the village of Cour-Cheverny is a credit to the Centre-Val de Loire region thanks to a splendid heritage, and a location that will seduce travellers seeking to follow in the footsteps of the Kings and Queens of France.

Watered by the Beuvron river which flows into the Loire 8 kilometres further west, as well as by a number of ponds and rus, the village of Cour-Cheverny makes, it can be said, dream its visitors by the splendour of its architecture. Here, elegance is the order of the day, as you will be able to discover: the commune is indeed famous for being home to a number of splendid castles. The Château de la Taurie, that of Chatreuil, those of Beaumont, de la Sistière, the Château des Murblins and the Château de Sérigny. Reputed to be one of the most beautifully furnished castles in the Loire Valley, the Château de Cheverny has been open to the public since 1922. Its magnificent pieces of furniture, but also its decorations, its collections of armour and weapons, its florilèges of ceremonial dress, its gardens, its botanical park and its wooden horses make it a must to visit. Inhabited by the same family for six centuries, the one that would have inspired Hergé for the architecture of his famous Château de Moulinsart also houses a permanent exhibition on the world of Tintin and his adventures in Moulinsart, which we recommend you visit with your family.

Heir to a long wine-growing tradition, the commune is adorned with alleys of vineyards, which produce a wine called "AOC Cour-Cheverny": a dry white wine, it is best enjoyed with local charcuterie, seafood or fish-based dishes such as Loire plaice, bream, tartar eel and tench bream. Rillons and rillettes will delight young and old alike, as will Touraine cheeses, truffle dishes, pavés de Blois, black pudding with apples and potato pancakes from Berry, all succulent dishes that will perfect your gastronomic discoveries.

Between ponds, forests and vineyards, the area of Cour-Cheverny lends itself particularly well to hiking. The commune is also crossed by numerous walking routes, but also (and above all!) by paths called "Châteaux à vélo" (castles by bike) which will allow you to discover the calm and charm of the surrounding countryside, dotted with a myriad of castles. The Beauval Zoo 33 kilometres away is worth a visit, as are the famous Loire Valley Castles that you can visit in just a few pedal strokes. The Chateau de Beauregard (9 kilometres), Chaumont (24 kilometres), the Royal Castle of Blois (16 kilometres), the Castle and Spa of Saint-Denis-sur-Loire (18 kilometres) and the great Renaissance palace of Chambord (17 kilometres) are the most easily accessible castles, located less than 30 minutes from Cour-Cheverny. Finally, the castles of Chenonceau, Clos Lucé, the Royal Castle of Amboise, those of Villandry, Langeais, the Royal Fortress of Chinon and the (absolutely magnificent) Castle of Azay-le-Rideau will complete your stay around the Loire.
