In the heart of the Vendée, the magnificent seaside resort of La Faute sur Mer offers its visitors nearly 10 kilometres of splendid beaches and 200 hectares of forest, a paradise for hikers and nature lovers. Between river and sea, with on one side the river Le Lay and on the other the Atlantic Ocean, this commune is undeniably turned towards water, in particular worth a rich and varied fauna and flora.
Loved by families and sportsmen, the coastline of La Faute sur Mer is made up of wide golden sandy beaches as far as the eye can see stretching over more than 10 kilometres facing the ocean. Bordered by immense pine forests, they are very appreciated by water sports aficionados. Closer to the city centre, the "Grand Plage" extends for several kilometres from the casino to the beaches of La Tranche-sur-Mer. Its quiet surroundings, its dunes and calm waters make the happiness of families who come to bathe there in complete safety, but also of the amateurs of sand yachts. The "Plage des Belugas" is located on the Pointe d'Arçay peninsula, an extension of the "Grand Plage". It is also famous for its sand yachting, it is equipped with a kindergarten with games on the sand and a club for the little ones. Next door, the "Plage des Chardons" is bordered by a large forest, perfect for picnics in the shade of trees. Generally speaking, it will be easy for you to find a place to put your towel and flip-flops, as the beaches of La Faute sur Mer are so vast ! As for nautical and sporting activities, in addition to the sand yacht, you will be able to enjoy the pleasures of the seaside by letting yourself be tempted by sailing or paddle courses, excursions by catamaran, but also during sea excursions aboard a kayak or a Hawaiian pirogue : a playful and sporting way to discover all the charms of the Fautian coast.
In addition to being a renowned family seaside resort, La Faute sur Mer is renowned for its magnificent natural areas. The Belle Henriette lagoon and the Pointe d'Arçay are among the most breathtaking nature reserves in the department. The latter, an arm 9 kilometres long, is a unique place of its kind, where many protected species live in harmony. With the help of guides, you can visit these two sites to observe the birds, forests and reed beds that make up the wild landscape of the commune. On the river side, the observatory of the Rade of Love is the perfect place to contemplate rare areas of migratory or nesting birds, as well as to discover the oyster and mussel parks that make up the landscape of the fautais. From this magnificent belvedere, an absolutely magnificent landscape awaits you on the oak forest, the Lay and the Baie de l'Aiguillon.
Because of its relatively flat relief, the Vendée has an immense network of cycle paths : it will be possible for you, notably from the Belle Henriette roundabout, to join Luçon by following its canal, but also the Marais Poitevin, the banks of the Lay and the coastal paths which will let you glimpse the splendours of La Faute sur Mer and its coast.
The cradle of mussel farming, La Faute sur Mer has an immense forest of bouchots which astonishes visitors as soon as the sea retreats and lets these mussel alignments appear, hung in swarms on stakes (also called "bouchots") embedded in the sand. A jewel of local gastronomy, these mussels with the sweet scent of hazelnuts can be tasted in all the good shops of La Faute sur Mer, accompanied by salicornes, eels, salad and Vendée brioche, mogette, prefu, local ham, roasted sardines and trouspinette, the famous local drink.

There are some very good restaurants except one we were very disappointed in, which is the pizzeria La Marina: service much too long and pizzas not at all to what we could expect.

Paintball not very far for the children. Visit to the marshes. The market of the Faute sur Mer is very good as well as the animations on the square. The playroom for young people is very good.

We had one restaurant a day... no, since we went back to La Guélette à l'Aiguillon sur Mer where the welcome, the dishes and the waiting time were up to par... We gave them a score of 8.5/10!
