Everything is gathered at La Manga del Mar Menor to make its visitors want to throw their return ticket in the garbage, in order to make it their home. Confusing and captivating, this charming destination is the perfect place to plant your parasol in summer.
In the southern part of Spain, in the Murcia region, not far from Cartagena, "La Manga" is a 21-kilometre-long barrier beach as if lost in the middle of the sea. Surrounded by water, La Manga separates the warm waters of the Mediterranean from those of the Mar Menor. Don't expect to find a particular charm to the city, rather composed of soulless buildings and hotels... But it is common knowledge that you don't go to La Manga if you are a fan of medieval architecture or old stones. La Manga del Mar Menor, we like to go there for a few fathoms, to eat, to sunbathe and above all: to have fun. From coves to endless beaches lined with turquoise water, La Manga is a real little paradise for lovers of water sports in all its forms. From Pino Creek to Cavanna Beach, Galua Beach, Levante Beach, El Arenal Beach, Leveche Beach, Playa Aliseos and Playa Chica, in total, more than 40 kilometres of idyllic beaches are available for your swim breaks. The latter are particularly well equipped as they are mostly lined with palm trees, chiringuitos and deckchairs where you can take a nap in peace.
Here, water sports are king, so it will be difficult for you to choose as the palette is so wide: whether you are an expert in the subject or a novice, you can go stand up paddle, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, sea kayaking, scuba diving, but also kitesurfing, catamaran or jet-ski. But if there is one thing we advise you to do during your holidays in La Manga, it is to board a boat and sail along its coastline, both on the Mar Menor side and on the Mediterranean side, to discover the many small islands that dot the open sea (Isla Mayor O del Baron, Isla Grosa, Islote el Farallon, Isla del Ciervo, Isla Rondella O Redonda...). If the trip is worth the day, the sunsets from the sea will be the highlight of your excursion!
In terms of gastronomy, La Manga is not to be outdone since it offers its visitors a wide range of exquisite flavours. Of course, seafood is of prime importance: we recommend that you try "caldero", a speciality made from rice and fish, with chilli pepper and garlic. Sea bream, mullet, shrimp, dried tuna, but also bottarga, "mojete murciano" (based on tuna, eye, olives and tomatoes), "ensalada cantonal" (smoked fish salad), beans, blanks, lemon and almond desserts, as well as local fruits and vegetables will be available to all the good restaurants.
