The 19th arrondissement of Paris has rather contrasting facets. Popular in the north, a little bobo in the south, it stands out for its extraordinary cultural offer in the northeast with the fairly recent development of the Parc de la Villette. To the south, the Buttes-Chaumont district is organized around a park of great beauty. Created by Haussmann and inaugurated by Napoleon III, this vast green space built on a hill is a real paradise for children with its games, puppet theatre and ponies. The older ones will probably appreciate the lake, the waterfalls, the secular and exotic trees (sequoias, paulownias...) and the magnificent view of Montmartre from the top of the Belvedere.
Near the park, go beat the cobblestones of the American quarter and go back at least a century. On the hillside, between Mouzaïa and Michel Hidaldo streets, you will discover about twenty small streets, pedestrian and flowered, lined with villas built in the 1890s. A change of scenery guaranteed ! Then follow the basin of La Villette to join the park of the same name. On the way, make a stop to admire the Crimean bridge which rises at the passage of boats, and make a small detour to visit the Centquatre-Paris. This former municipal funeral home service has been brilliantly converted into a pleasant place where artistic creation, theatres, bookshops, but also gardens where the local youth play football.
Once occupied by the general slaughterhouses of Paris, the Parc de la Villette was built in the 1980s. Since then, it has become a place of walking and culture not to be missed. Its huge green space of 35 hectares is decorated with playgrounds, theme gardens and 26 red pavilions that host restaurants, music stands or information centers. On the outskirts, the park is home to leading cultural sites : the Philarmonie de Paris, the Grande Halle, Le Zénith and the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie. This city proposes many interactive exhibitions which aim to make understand the new technologies. In its heart, the Cité des enfants is a space of incredible discoveries for the youngest. To prolong the pleasure, offer yourself an entrance to La Géode and let yourself be impressed by the films shown on a 1000 m² hemispherical screen.
