Facing the left bank of the Sern, Peyrignac is a charming village in the Dordogne where life is good. Friendly and conducive to relaxation in a green and natural setting, Peyrignac and a real concentrate of freshness in the heart of the Dordogne. Watered by small streams crossing its valleys, this picturesque place hides in its heart some beautiful monuments to visit during your stay. Start by discovering the Château de la Chapoulie : dating from the 14th century and listed as a Historic Monument, it is recognisable thanks to its twin towers and its octagonal dovecote, also listed. Harboring some high reliefs of the XVIe century, it is accessible by several pedestrian paths which will allow you to discover the commune of Peyrignac and its surroundings. Several puys dot the local landscape, such as the "Puy de Capette" : discovered in Roman times, this magnificent belvedere will offer you a superb panorama over the Puys de la Roche, the Perds and the Peyrignac landscapes.
Called "La Nuelle" and "Le Taravelou", the streams delimiting the commune to the east and west are bordered by pretty shady banks on which hikers like to stroll to discover the charms of Peyrignac in the cool streams. The "Boucle de la Bonnelle" (3.3 kilometres) and the "Boucle de la Nuelle" (6.4 kilometres) are particularly suitable if you are fond of excursions to the green. They will allow you to discover the old wash-house of the commune, but also the old fountains which were formerly used by the Celtic bards of scene where to sing and tell the exploits of the chiefs of tribes and the local heroes.
Ideally located in the heart of the Périgord Noir, Peyrignac will allow you to discover some of the most beautiful historical sites in the region, starting with the famous Lascaux II cave in Montignac. The most famous decorated cave dating from the Palaeolithic period, it is only 15 kilometres from Peyrignac and will allow young and old to discover this precious historical treasure. A little further, 24 kilometres away, the Tourtoirac cave dug by water deserves a detour, just like the Rouffignac cave 30 kilometres away, known to have been the home of Palaeolithic artists and bears. If, however, you prefer luxury and elegant homes, then Hautefort is the place to go. With its imposing castle surrounded by a superb landscaped park and gardens à la française, it evokes by its features the architecture of the famous castles of the Loire. An ancient medieval fortress erected on a Roman camp, the castle can be visited throughout the year, thanks to guides dressed in elegant period clothing.
If you like water activities, then you will have to take the direction of Terrasson-Lavilledieu : located 15 kilometres from Peyrignac, the commune is famous for its whitewater sports and water activities on the Vézère. You can go on a boat cruise on the Vézère, but also pedal boat, canoe, kayak, perfect fun activities to do with family or friends during this Peyrignac holiday.
