At the borders of Brittany, in the Morbihan, Carnac is a popular seaside resort. If it is known for its basement made of granite, it is mainly its history that makes the fame of the site of Carnac. Indeed, this one draws its origins in the beginnings of the humanity. One of the oldest vestiges is the Saint-Michel Tumulus, built between 5,000 and 3,400 BC. This earth hillock contains a central vault where archaeologists have discovered a lot of funerary furniture from the Neolithic period: polished axes, necklaces, pendants... History lovers will also be conquered by the megalithic alignments and the Museum of Prehistory.
Carnac also adress to anyone looking for a quiet and friendly destination. The small town, with its thalassotherapy and its marine spa, welcomes tourists throughout the year. Several beauty institutes and spas have contributed to making well-being an art of living in this pretty corner of Brittany.
The visit would not be complete without making a detour through the Anse du Po, former fishing port that became a place dedicated to oyster farming. About thirty oyster growers distribute the 180 hectares of parklands of the Po cove. Tours are organized from April to September.
In the surrounding of Carnac, it is possible to embark for the islands of Morbihan. Île-aux-Moines and Ile d'Arz have many hiking and cycling trails. Without forgetting Belle-Ile-en-Mer, Houat and Groix, whose charm and tranquility are the main assets. The Island of Arz, in particular, has several remarkable sites such as the Berno mill. Freshly restored by a team of volunteers, the mill operated until 1910. Several local companies provide the shuttle to transport tourists and then search for them. The Gulf of Morbihan is considered one of the most beautiful bays in the world.

Very good caterer : Mercier (59 avenue des Druides - Carnac), recommended every year in the "petit futé" ! Very friendly welcome and quality products. Otherwise for a drink or dinner : brasserie "La Potinière" (25 avenue Miln - Carnac).

Restaurants-crêperies "Chez Marie" and "Chez Valentin" in Carnac: the owners of these restaurants are very friendly and welcoming. To see : the Menhirs in Carnac. To visit around : La Trinité sur Mer, Quiberon. Very nice region and the people are very welcoming.

This is the big event of the summer in Carnac, the "Run in Carnac" invites sports enthusiasts and novices to its traditional friendly run. Every Friday, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, discover the seaside resort during a race supervised by two professional sports educators, on a course of about 7 kilometers from the church square. Are you interested? Bring water, sun cream and a cap! Free of charge, no reservation required.
