In the department of Morbihan, just next to Lorient whose harbor it watches over from its citadel, Port-Louis fascinates as much as it delights vacationers in love with this beautiful region that is Brittany. Built on a peninsula of about 1 square kilometer, this historical city reveals on its small territory a vast historical heritage of quality. What to see? The citadel of course! Built during the 16th century by the Spanish and then modified in the 17th century by the French, it closes the harbor of Lorient and houses the national museum of the Navy as well as a museum of the India Company. It is also, in the same way as its ramparts, classified as a Historical Monument! You will have plenty of time to discover the fortifications, which will offer you magnificent views of the open sea and the nearby harbor of Lorient, without forgetting the island of Groix in the distance! City of Art and History, Port-Louis is also worth a visit for the unique beauty of its bastion, its elegant residences, but also its dense religious heritage. While walking around Port-Louis, you will discover the neoclassical Saint-Pierre chapel, but also the magnificent portal of the rue de la Citadelle, the last visible vestige of a monastery built in the 17th century. The fountain of the Récollets, the park with cannonballs, the town hall registered on the list of Historic Monuments, but also the church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption will complete your visit.

On the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, Port-Louis invites you to take a walk. So, we can only advise you to take advantage of the beauty of the early morning for a few quiet strolls to fill up with the good air of the sea! The sea is THE star of Saint-Louis. To discover it, there is nothing better than a small quiet excursion along the coast, or in the sea if you have the sea legs! With the family, there is nothing better than a short break on the side of the magnificent Grande Plage de Port-Louis: located near the Citadel, it is the only supervised beach in the town. You can rent small colored bathing cabins, swim and watch the sunset which is particularly beautiful! Bike rides, water sports, fishing, visits to Larmor-Plage, Locmiquélic, Gâvres, Groix or Lorient will complete your stay in Brittany.
