Known as the "goddaughter of Bordeaux", Libourne, between Bordeaux and Saint-Émilion, reveals its charms as it flows. Rich in a very strong architectural heritage, this 13th century port fortified town bathed by the Dordogne and Isle is the first seaport on the Dordogne. For centuries, its privileged location has made it a major centre of regional trade, particularly for wool, wood and salt, but also and above all for wine. The history of Libourne is closely linked to that of wine: indeed, the town is located in the heart of a very large territory, dotted with cellars, vineyards and castles, each more prestigious than the next. During walks or bike rides, you will be able to discover in no time the most emblematic wine-growing villages, such as Lalande-de-Pomerol, Graves de Vayres, Pomerol and its 800 hectares of vineyards, without forgetting the famous medieval city of Saint-Émilion, rich in more than XIX centuries of tradition around wine. Hiking and wine lovers will be able to combine their two passions during excursions on the famous "Route des Vins en Saint-Émilion, Pomerol, Fronsac" between Bordeaux and Bergerac, a gourmet tour whose reputation is well established and which attracts tourists from all over the world every year! The sector is crossed by many hiking routes and greenways, such as the "Voie Lapebie", the paths of the Chamadelle coasts, the "Boucle de Condat à Libourne", the banks of the Dordogne or the "Canal des Deux Mers".
The heart of this city is also worth a visit: its elegant quays, its large paved squares, its Grand Port tower but also its 15th century town hall and its Fine Arts Museum are among the highlights of your visit. Place Abel Surchamp is the central point of this bastide: known for its arcades, it is highly appreciated for its weekly markets, which bring together gourmands and local producers. Stroll along its narrow streets and discover the stone bridge, a splendid witness to Libourne's rich past, built in 1822. The Château de Sales, the Château du Pintey and its dovecote, the Saint-Jean church, the Carmel chapel, or the remains of the Cordeliers convent will be essential during your stay in Libourne.
To refresh yourself during the summer heat, head for the Dagueys natural site and its large lake. The place is perfect for relaxing breaks on its beach, but also for recreational and sporting activities: swimming, pedal boat, inflatable games and other water sports will delight young and old.
