Along the Mediterranean, in the Hérault department, the beautiful town of Vendres is only 10 kilometres from Béziers. The mill of Cassan, the 14th century church of Saint-Etienne, the gaseous fountain of Puech Blanc, as well as several ancient remains such as the Roman aqueduct, or the temple of Venus. Today totally in ruins, this ancient place of worship dedicated to the goddess of love and beauty is one of the most beautiful treasures of Vendres. The legend even says that it would be the goddess herself who would be at the origin of the creation of the city, the name of Vendres being directly taken from the Latin "Venus".
In addition to having a plethora of green spaces, Vendres is a true concentrate of nature, which will delight all lovers of the great outdoors. Between sea, lake, dunes and vineyards, the commune has a myriad of marked paths, both inland and on the seaside at its seaside resort of Vendres-Plage, to delight young and old, long-distance hikers and contemplative walkers alike. Our advice ? Make a stop at the pond of Vendres! Covering an area of 1800 hectares, this vast collection of natural environments is a nugget that is a must see. Mixing salt meadows, reed beds, dunes and pond, this site with its mosaic of landscapes impresses both at sunrise, when the mist covers the Lower Aude Plain, and at nightfall, when the sky is tinged with magical colours that are reflected in the water. During the day, you will be able to observe more than sixty species of birds, including chickadees and pink flamingos, but also numerous insects, amphibians and a whole host of fragrant grasses and local plants. Then take the dune cord to get to the town to discover the shellfish port of Chichoulet: here, mussels, shellfish, freshly caught fish and mussels can be tasted at will!
Finally how to talk about Vendres without mentioning its beach. Situated on its seaside resort of Vendres-Plage, it delights all year round strollers and lovers of idleness. Swimming, but also pedal boats, paddle boats, sailing, towed buoys, SUP, horse riding by the sea and other inflatable games will delight young and old, for perfect holidays in Vendres!

If you're taking a trip to Sète, go to Les Halles where good products are waiting for you. We also found a nice restaurant with a wood fire, between the port and Les Halles, it is called "Au feu de bois" (8 bis Frédéric Mistral). The prices are more than correct, the staff is pleasant and the products (we tested the beef grill) are of quality.
