The pretty village of Vendres lies on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. A small seaside resort typical of the Hérault department, the town of Vendres is situated 10 kilometres from Béziers and two hours from the Spanish border, in the heart of a preserved natural environment. In an area very appreciated by holidaymakers when summer comes, put down your suitcases in the superb and relaxing setting of this charming seaside resort, halfway between the garrigue and fine sand beach.
Discover the old city of Vendres, its character stones and historical remains such as the Roman aqueduct and the temple of Venus. This temple of which only the ruins remain today was a place of worship dedicated to the goddess of love and beauty : indeed, it is she who would be at the origin of the name of the city since "Vendres" comes from the Latin "Venus". Then walk through its maze of small streets, and rest for a few moments in the shade at the foot of a fountain in a postcard setting.
Lovers of nature, know that the city of Vendres has many green spaces and magnificent wine estates through which it is good to walk or cycle. During your walks, you will discover the wonders of the local fauna and flora. Between the sea and the city is the pond of Vendres where you can observe many endangered species of birds, such as the mustached chickadee, the bittern or the purple heron, but you can also cross some flamingos !
Walk along the dunes that separate the pond from the town and you will arrive at the shellfish port of Chichoulet, from where you can taste oysters, mussels, shellfish and other fish just caught.
Laziness, swimming and relaxation lovers will not fail to relax on the city's 3.5 kilometres of fine sandy beach. Along the coast, many activities for young and old are offered in Vendres-Plage in winter and summer, such as diving, pedal boat, kayaking, paddle, towed buoy, sailing, inflatable games and boat hire. Finally, horse-riding enthusiasts will be able to discover the surrounding area on horseback, donkeyback or horse-drawn carriage when the most sporty can try their hand at accrobranche, all in a superb setting just a few metres from the sea.
