Monumental ! That's probably the adjective that suits the 7th district best. Indeed, this one shelters not only the most famous monument of Paris, the Eiffel tower, but also the Invalides, the Military school, the Palais-Bourbon, the Matignon hotel, the Orsay museum and the Quai-Branly museum. In addition, its wide avenues contribute to this feeling of grandeur and offer the visitor superb perspectives.
The undisputed star of the district is the Eiffel Tower. Temporarily built for the 1889 World's Fair, it crossed criticism and threats of destruction to become the Capital's emblem. To climb the floors, remember to book your tickets on the internet, this will allow you to avoid long queues.
At the foot of the tower, the Champ-de-Mars gardens offer an ideal setting to rest, picnic or enjoy the view of Gustave Eiffel's work. On the other side of the gardens, admire the Military School and, just in front, the Wall for Peace, erected in 2000 and which allows, thanks to its touch screens, to send messages of peace in many languages. Then we'll meet at the Invalides. This former military hospital now houses three museums, the most famous of which is the Army Museum. Enjoy the facade of the building which measures nearly 200 meters, its inner courtyard and especially the dome of its church whose sparkling golds are visible from many places in Paris. Next to the esplanade des Invalides, on the banks of the Seine, observe the imposing Palais-Bourbon which hosts the National Assembly.
There are still many opportunities to marvel in the 7th arrondissement and at least two are unavoidable. The first is the Quai-Branly Museum. Inaugurated in 2006, its ship-shaped building invites you on a wonderful journey around the world thanks to its collections of works of art from America, Asia, Africa and Oceania. The second is the Musée d'Orsay, which houses the most beautiful collection of impressionist paintings in the world. After all these discoveries, take advantage of the banks of the Seine, laid out since 2013 for pedestrians, between the Musée d'Orsay and the Alma bridge. Numerous café terraces and restaurants await you there as well as a climbing wall, for the most sporting. To have a drink or eat, you will find other good addresses on rue Saint-Dominique, rue Malar or rue de Bellechasse.
