Located at the entrance to the Arcachon Basin, the seaside resort of Pyla-sur-Mer (located in the commune of La Teste-de-Buch) is one of the most beautiful destinations on the Atlantic coast, as well as one of the most popular resorts in Gironde. It has a strong architectural and natural heritage, to discover during a stay with family, couple or friends : its dazzling panoramas, its dune of Pilat and its immense ocean beaches make captivate the hearts of many holidaymakers every year.
What makes this resort so famous is obviously the Pilat dune : the highest dune in Europe, 117 metres high and 600 metres wide, this huge dune, 3 kilometres long, is one of the most visited sites in Gironde, with over a million and a half visitors each year. This natural monument formed by the accumulation of sand from the sea is in perpetual movement and continues its mutation from year to year. Recognizable between a thousand because of its sparkling golden colour visible from afar, this dune promises the courageous who will try its ascent a panoramic point of view quite exceptional on the land, the Pylataise coast and the sea, but also on the Landes forest, the Arguin bank marking the entrance of the Arcachon basin and Cap Ferret.
If there is an unmissable architectural site in Pyla-sur-Mer, it is the Villa Thétys. Built in 1924, this Art-Deco jewel with its white walls surprises with its Greek allure. This villa facing the sea also has a rotunda decorated with ceramics among which you may recognize the goddess Tethys. Nestled in the middle of a magnificent Italian garden, we advise those who are looking for a little freshness to stroll through the vegetation, discover its arcades and fountains. The town of Pyla-sur-Mer is dotted with numerous cycle and hiking paths and can be visited on foot, on horseback or by bicycle : it is the ideal destination for a sporting holiday. During your walks, you will discover all the secrets of this commune.
Whether wild or developed, the Océanes beaches offer holidaymakers an ideal setting for the practice of many nautical activities. Stretching over nearly 35 kilometres, these beaches renowned for their fine sand are a delight for swimmers, hikers, but also surfers. Pyla-sur-Mer is a popular destination for surfers, kitesurfers, sand yachts and sailors. You will also find diving, paragliding and parachuting clubs, aeroclubs, equestrian centres and play clubs for the little ones. You can also go to sea with the fishermen, sail along the coast with the wind, make an excursion to Île aux Oiseaux and its cabanes tchanquées... In short, everything is gathered here so that young and old can enjoy their holidays in the heart of a unique landscape.
As for swimming, there will be something for everyone. Appreciated for its quality of life and its very pleasant climate, Pyla-sur-Mer benefits from numerous beaches over 10 kilometres, between the Arcachon basin and the famous Dune du Pilat, but also from protected and green beaches along the lake of Cazaux. South of the seaside resort, the "Plage de Salie Sud" is frequented by surfers. Swimming is forbidden there because of the bay which can be very dangerous, but you can however walk in its dunes to enjoy the absolutely splendid landscape on the sand as far as the eye can see, and let you go to long idleness sessions under the sun. The "Plage de la Corniche" is certainly the most beautiful beach of the resort : located at the foot of the dune du Pilat, facing the bench of Arguin, it is perfect to observe sunsets on the immensity of the ocean : it is undoubtedly for this reason that it was elected second most beautiful beach of the world by the British newspaper "The Guardian" ! As a family, the beaches of the freshwater lake of Cazaux are very famous. In addition to places to picnic and play, these beaches enjoy the calm of the lake and its warm, shallow waters. Water sports enthusiasts will still be able to enjoy a wide range of activities, from water skiing to windsurfing, wakeboarding and scuba diving. The presence of marked out paths will finally allow you to traverse the Aquitaine coast and to make the turn of the lake of Cazaux on foot or by bicycle, in order to appreciate its beauty.
In addition to the water sports and numerous hiking trails that line Pyla-sur-Mer and its surroundings, you will also find a mini-golf, a casino, an aquarium, a zoo, multiple art galleries, a racecourse and tennis courts to share many moments with family or friends.
Finally how to speak about Pyla-sur-Mer without evoking its varied flavours ? The Arcachon basin and the Gironde are famous for their delicious dishes, and the town of Pyla-sur-Mer is no exception. Thus, in one of the many restaurants of the resort, you can drink local wines, such as Château-Grillet or Côte-Rotie, taste grilled meats, rosette, terrines, goat cheese, goldens apples, peaches, cherries, without forgetting the traditional oysters of Arcachon, jewel of local gastronomy.

My best memory will be to go by bike and make the crossing, and to visit Cap Ferret, and also to take a 2h30 catamaran trip on the Arcachon basin. Climb up and see the dune offering a magnificent view. Avoid the restaurant "Chez Aldo" (instead of Petit Nice): I rarely criticize but there... afterwards, each one has his own tastes. But great sunset on the other hand.
